Family Overrides

The Families panel lets you replace and transform Revit Loadable Families (referred to simply as families) synced from Revit. Overrides are applied per family type and are non-destructive.

Browsing families

  • Search — filter by name
  • Selected only — show families on currently selected objects
  • Select linked — select all objects using the chosen family
  • Copy / Paste — transfer overrides between families
  • Reset — remove overrides for the selected family

Object

Controls what replaces the synced family geometry. Replacement Type has two options: Append places the replacement object or collection alongside the original geometry, and Replace removes the original geometry and substitutes the chosen object or collection instead. Source switches between replacing with a single object or a collection of objects.

Field Description
Replacement Type Append — places the chosen object or collection alongside the original. Replace — removes the original and substitutes the chosen object or collection
Source Replace with a single Object or a Collection of objects
Object / Collection picker The specific Blender object or collection to use as the replacement

Scaling XYZ scale

Randomize

Adds random variation to placed family instances. Useful for vegetation, furniture, and repetitive elements.

Field Description
Z Rotation Random rotation around Z axis
XY Rotation Random tilt in XY plane
Scale Random scale range
Offset Random positional offset
Transform Seed Seed for transform randomization
Cull Factor Randomly removes this fraction of instances. At 0.3, roughly 30% of instances are removed. Useful for creating natural variation in dense placements
Cull Seed Seed for culling. Change this to get a different set of removed instances
